Lensic Presents proudly brings you The New Power Generation: Celebrating Prince on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $35, $55, and $69.

The New Power Generation (NPG)—Prince’s backing band from 1990 to 2013—will stop at The Lensic for an evening of chart-topping hits from all eras of Prince’s career. Featuring NPG alumni Morris Hayes (keyboards), Tony Mosley (guitar and vocals), and Damon Dickson (percussion, background vocals), it’s a concert that honors and celebrates the band’s late mentor and his music—with a newcomer on lead vocals: MacKenzie, the singer from Los Angeles who impressed America on the 2019 season of  America’s Got Talent.

The first Prince album recorded with The New Power Generation, 1991’s Diamonds and Pearls, marked a return from Prince’s pop-oriented records to a sound reflecting his funk and R&B roots. Said Spin magazine at the time: “With Diamonds and Pearls, Prince married his new band to Bomb Squad-style hip-hop production and New Jack Swing (a distinctive mix of R&B, dance, and hip-hop that had emerged in 1987) while also delivering his most accessible set of pop songs since 1984’s Purple Rain.
